What is the Solar System?

The solar system is the sun and everything that travels around it. The sun is the center of the solar system and the planets and other celestial bodies orbit around it.


Activity A:

Go to the following sites to learn more about the planets. When you get to the site, click on the name of each planet and read about it. Choose one of the planets and complete the following in your space journal:

1. Draw a picture of the planet you selected.

2. List its number in order from the sun.

3. List how long it takes to revolve (orbit) around the sun. This is the planet's "year."

4. List how long it takes for the planet to rotate (spin) completely around. This is the planet's "day."

5. Write at least two additional interesting facts about the planet you selected.

Activity B:

Go to the following site to learn The Family of the Sun Song. Print the song and practice with your crew to sing it for Mission Control upon your return.
